Message from the Director
2024 is the year of a realized dream, Bach Virtuosi Festival’s debut in NYC: May 13 – 21. We opened with a lecture from renowned Bach historian and author, Christoph Wolff. Then, we had three concerts. In our wildest dreams, we did not think all of these concerts and the lecture would SELL OUT. But, they did. We have been elated by this news.
2024 is also the year we are reaching new heights in Portland, Maine (June 19 – 25, 2024)…our ninth year and one that has everyone excited for.
Both festivals with world renowned artists, impeccable standards, and the same integrity to the music will share the same theme, “The Eternal Bach,” a theme inspired by NASA spacecraft, Voyager 1. Launched in 1977 and still traveling in distant space, its ongoing mission is to introduce planet Earth to intelligent beings should they be encountered. On board is a recording of 20 works of music, the Golden Record; three of the works are by J.S. Bach, the most by any composer. At the opening concert in both cities Bach Virtuosi Festival will present each of these works.
Additionally, for the first time since our 2016 inception, we will perform three Brandenburg Concerti (2, 3, & 5) in Maine. New York attendees will enjoy Brandenburg 2 & 5, performed by my brilliant colleagues. This will be the first time we have performed Brandenburg No. 3 since we launched in 2016; it will be a special event.
Whether you join us in NY, Maine or at both, you will be moved by the incomparable sonatas, cantatas, partitas, concerti and arias of the world’s greatest composer.
Bach performed by the greatest artists, whether you experience our concerts at St. Luke’s Cathedral, Etz Chaim Synagogue or St. Ignatius of Antioch in NY, listening together we will join hands with the music from the garden of heaven.
Come enjoy our sensational concerts and festivals with our world-class performances of Bach and his contemporaries, Handel, Vivaldi and Buxtehude. We are excited to welcome you to our concerts and events!
Thank you,
Lewis Kaplan
