Jessica Wu, from Queens, NY, is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at Columbia University. She also studies under Lewis Kaplan at the Juilliard School as a student in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange. An avid chamber musician, Jessica has participated in the New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) Chamber Music Program, Summer Chamber Music Intensive, Chamber Music Center of New York, LaGuardia High School Chamber Music, and Juilliard Pre-College. Highlights include winning the 2022 Lincoln Center Young Ensembles Program and an invitation to perform at Alice Tully Hall. Jessica has worked with Cong Wu, Quan Ge, and Nathan Vickery of the New York Philharmonic; Orli Shaham; Ani Kavafian; and Gilbert Kalish, among others. Jessica has served as concertmaster and principal in the 2021 and 2022 Pre-College Orchestra cycles, respectively. She has also served as concertmaster for the LaGuardia Senior Orchestra. As a soloist, Jessica has collaborated with various orchestras. She has performed as a competition winner with the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, the LaGuardia Senior Orchestra, Island Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Music Center of New York. She has also had various invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall.
Jessica was invited to the Universität Mozarteum Sommerakademie in 2018 and 2019, where she performed for audiences in Solitar Hall and Schloss Höch in Flachau, Austria. In 2022, she was invited to perform at the Bach Virtuosi Festival.
She is a 2022 graduate of LaGuardia High School and Juilliard Pre-College. She is a recipient of the Juilliard Pre-College Commencement Award and the 2022 LaGuardia High School Alumni & Friends Graduation Award for Instrumental Music. At Columbia, she is the recipient of the Rabbi Sheldon J. Weltman, Ph.D., Scholarship Fund.
On campus, Jessica is a violinist in the Columbia University Orchestra, Columbia Music Performance Program, and Juilliard Lab Orchestra. Passionate in arts education, she teaches at Musical Mentors and also serves as a mentor in the Juilliard Pre-College String Orchestra.
