Pablo O’Connell

Pablo O'Connell holding two oboes

Pablo O’Connell is a NYC-based modern and historical oboist. Highly in-demand as a freelance musician, Mr. O’Connell performs with the Trinity Wall St Baroque Orchestra, Heartbeat Opera, Tafelmusik, Carmel Bach Festival, Mercury Chamber Orchestra, Cantata Collective, New York Baroque Incorporated, Opera Neo, Twelfth Night, and Musica Angelica. He is passionate about contemporary music and performs regularly with SEM Ensemble and the Metropolis Ensemble, where has curated a series of pop-up concerts of open-score music annually since 2022 as part of the Biophony festival. He recorded an album of music for duo and electronics by David First entitled Girders. In January 2026, his premiere recording of Kyle Miller’s “Impressions” for solo oboe was released.

Mr. O’Connell’s dynamic and varied musical life also includes writing and recording original folk music, and in January 2025 he released his debut album, titled Old Lines in the City Street. He is the music director of Sing in Solidarity, the socialist choir of the NYC Democratic Socialists of America. He maintains a private teaching studio of baroque and modern oboists, and he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in modern and historical oboes from the Juilliard School (’20, ’22).
